EJ's Writing

EJ Sigue, a Year 3 student, wrote this about his science lesson on Monday. The lesson was all about observation and discussion - there was no reading material - and he remembered pretty well what was said.

EJ, I can see a great scientists developing or maybe a great story writer one day? We love your writing! Thank you for sharing your writing with us.

Learning About the pH Scale

We learned about how acid or how alkaline a solution could be when mixed with water. Science capability 1, observing and inferencing, was used. Students would discuss why they think toothpaste has a pH scale of 6 and not 3 for example.
Capability 3 was also used, critiquing our evidence, when some group's readings were different to the majority.

Learning to Observe Closely and Make Predictions

Over the last 2 weeks we have been learning to observe like a scientist: we use our sharp eyes and prior knowledge to make predictions.
What will the balloon's traveling path be if I add water to a balloon inside my balloon?

What do I see when I look closer than usual at objects?

Science at the start of Term 3

Te Puke Primary is having fun with science!

We are learning about electric circuits, physics with balloons, Skittles and colour, chromatography and doing titrations. Working collaboratively just like real scientists!
